Accountability Groups
The UCAE’s Accountability Group program seeks to provide support to students by offering structured individual work time, facilitating a small group environment that encourages community and collaboration, and modeling effective and transferable academic strategies.
Accountability Groups meet weekly for 90 minutes throughout the semester and are facilitated by student leaders. The group’s purpose is to:
- Provide dedicated, structured work time
- Increase productivity through goal setting and follow-ups
- Foster community and peer support
- Share resources and strategies for academic success
- Model effective academic techniques that are transferable beyond the group setting
To join a group, either use Connect to sign up for the group of your choice or drop in to one of the groups listed below.
Be sure to arrive on time. Students arriving more than five minutes late will not be admitted.
Students have the option to join different groups each week, but if you’d like to lock in your place in a specific group let your group facilitator know.
Fall 2024 Accountability Groups:
All groups meet in Colvard North 2200 (use the entrance across from Atkins Library and the King building). Please be aware students are welcome to drop-in to a group, however, if no one has scheduled the group ahead of time through Connect the group may not meet at that time.
- Mondays at 10:30 am, 12:30 pm, and 5:30 pm
- Tuesdays at 10:00 am, 3:30 pm, and 5:30 pm
- Wednesdays at 9:30 am, 3:30 pm, and 5:30 pm
- Thursdays at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm
Connect Instructions:
- Log in to Connect through my.charlotte.edu using your Niner Net credentials and select the icon under Quick Links labeled Connect: Advising, Tutoring, Support. You can also log into Connect through the Navigate360 app on your phone.
- Click “Make an Appointment or Drop-in” button.
- In the “What type of Appointment…” drop-down, select “Academic Support (tutoring/mentoring)”.
- Under “Service,” select “Accountability Groups.”
- Pick your desired date. Groups are currently scheduled Monday through Thursday.
- Click “Find Available Time.”
- Select the day and time of the group you’d like to join.
Notes on Connect:
- Connect will not allow you to join a group that starts within the next 12 hours and only shows groups up to two weeks in advance.
- You have the option to join different groups week to week, but if you’d like to lock in your place in a specific group let your group facilitator know. They will inform administrators who will add a recurring appointment for the group of your choice.
Accountability Group Expectations
- To make the most of Accountability Groups, students are encouraged to sign up to attend the same group each week. However, students are also welcome to join groups as needed.
- Students are asked to arrive on time for the group they schedule and stay for the entire duration (90 minutes).
- If students are routinely late, leave early, or no show groups they have signed up for, they may be barred from joining groups for the remainder of the semester.
- Accountability Group Facilitators are in charge of structuring meetings, modeling productive behavior, sharing experiences, and guiding discussions.
- Students will receive reminders about groups they have signed up for via Connect emails and text messages. Group Facilitators might also reach out through UNC Charlotte email if they have essential information.
- Cell phones can both promote productivity and also be distracting. Members are encouraged to minimize phone usage during meetings. Individual groups will set further expectations around phone usage during individual work time.
