Success Guide

Position info:

  • Success Guides are peer coaches who support other undergraduate students through one-on-one meetings, resource referrals, and campus events.
  • Students can meet with their Success Guides as frequently or infrequently as they would like.
  • Success Guides work with students to create individual plans for achieving their academic and social goals throughout the semester.
  • Students interested in becoming a Success Guide must
    • Attend orientation before the semester begins
    • Attend biweekly staff meetings on Wednesdays from 9 am to 10 am
    • Meet with their supervising Graduate Assistant
    • Manage caseloads of 15 to 30 undergraduate students through email communication (using Yet Another Mail Merge), individual meetings, text messages, and phone calls.
    • Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential records of all student interactions regardless of format.
  • Students can expect to work 5 to 12 hours per week and earn $12.50 per hour.
  • Students can earn International Peer Educator Training Program Certification levels 1, 2, and 3 through the College Reading and Learning Association.

Qualifications:

  • Must be in good conduct standing with the university
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Must be an undergraduate student who has been at Charlotte for at least one semester (having earned at least 12 credit hours at UNC Charlotte)
  • Will be enrolled in 6+ credit hours in the semester of employment
  • Feel comfortable guiding peers through organizational strategies and academic technologies
