Peer Coaching

Success Guides are trained UNC Charlotte Students matched with their peers to provide academic support throughout the semester. The program is FREE to enroll and continue throughout the semester and your time at Charlotte!

Success Guides serve as accountability partners to ensure you are up to date on your assignments. They also provide peer coaching to help peers strengthen academic skills like time management, exam preparation, and note-taking. They can help you to troubleshoot issues in your classes and to become more connected to campus through both people and resources. In bi-weekly check-ins, they provide reminders about University deadlines, events happening on campus, and share study tips.

Alaka’i Bene
I am a first-year graduate student in the Masters of Social Work program. My passions are in mental health care and equitable access to resources for underrepresented populations. I did my undergrad at UNC Chapel Hill and studied Psychology, Education, and Social and Economic Justice. In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors and hiking, painting, rock climbing, and seeking out new experiences! Fun fact: I have a cat named Trash!

I am majoring in Graphic Design with a minor in Art History. I was born and raised in the lovely and sunny South Africa. A fun fact about me, although my country has 11 official languages, I only speak 2 languages fluently, English and Afrikaans, I am currently learning Dutch too. I started my college journey as a non-traditional and first-generation college student, I understand the challenges one faces as one tries to juggle school/personal life obligations. I love guiding and supporting students through their educational goals. I served as a peer mentor last semester and learned that the UCAE has great resources such as tutors and personal development workshops to help keep you on track. My biggest advice would be to utilize the resources that are available to us students. I also absolutely love to meet new people, so please feel free to stop and say hi if you see me around campus.

Emilia Glaser
I am a second year graduate student in the Counseling program. I moved down to Charlotte from Boone, NC, where I studied at Appalachian State University. I really enjoy hiking, cooking, watching shows, and spending time with my family. When I am not doing those things, you can often find me curled up reading a book or studying. I can not wait to start working with students and offering any support I can.

I did my undergrad at UNC Chapel Hill, and am a diehard Tar Heel sports fan (basketball, field hockey, soccer, football, you name it)! In my free time, I enjoy being active outdoors, exploring new music, kicking butt in Mario Party, and finding great food spots around Charlotte. I can’t wait to learn your story and help you accomplish the goals that fit YOU!

Cole Mlostek
I am a Junior at Charlotte studying Computer Science with a Concentration in Bioinformatics and Minoring in Biology! Some things I enjoy are reading, listening to music, and just hanging out with my friends. Some of my favorite music genres include EDM and some of the more mainstream music. When I’m not listening to music or reading you can find me studying and doing homework to make sure I get my work done on time.

Ava Peters
