Austin Butler is a first-year graduate assistant for the Peer Assisted Learning Program at the University Center for Academic Excellence. Austin completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at UNC Charlotte in May of 2022, and he is now pursuing a Master’s in Anthropology and Non-Profit Management. Before becoming a Graduate Assistant at UNC Charlotte, Austin was the lab manager for a primate neurobiology lab at the University of Chicago, where he trained non-human primates to perform computer-based tasks that allowed researchers to study the brain at the individual neuronal level. Austin has extensive experience working with and studying other primates in captivity such as chimpanzees and lemurs. Using his experience at UNC Charlotte, he hopes to one day manage a primate sanctuary of his own. As for now, Austin is committed to helping his fellow students succeed through the UCAE
