Michael Spivey, MA, LCMHC, NCC '17
Michael Spivey (he/him/his) currently serves as the Assistant Director for Student Success in the University Center for Academic Excellence. Michael is passionate about enhancing student success and promoting academic excellence through the power of education. Michael uses a student-centered approach to encourage students to take an active role in their learning as they embrace their strengths and critically analyze ways to be successful and to achieve their goals.
Michael is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) who earned his master’s degree in Counseling from UNC Charlotte. Michael holds a master’s degree in Education and Human Resource Development from The George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a bachelor’s degree in History from UNC Charlotte. Michael is a Certified Professional Facilitator Emeritus (CPF | E) and a certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Administrator.
Before joining the UCAE team, Michael worked as a mental health clinician as the Assistant Director of Counseling Services and an adjunct instructor at Lenoir-Rhyne University as well as a counselor intern at Rowan Cabarrus Community College. When not advocating for students, Michael enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring new restaurants, traveling, hiking, reading, and being outdoors.
