Assistant Director
Academic Recovery

Imani Crawford (she/her/hers) is the Assistant Director for Academic Recovery in the University Center for Academic Excellence. She is passionate about empowering students to address their academic needs, as well as their personal needs, to navigate towards their desired futures. Imani is a master level social worker, having served communities which include newly independent young adults, college students of various ages and backgrounds, and families. Imani operates from a belief that to succeed academically, the whole person must be cared for and that academic success is greatly influenced by a person’s overall well-being. She utilizes a person-centered approach to connect with students and learn the best way to advocate for them, while also encouraging self-advocacy.

Imani is proud to be a Charlotte native and UNC Charlotte alum, with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Social Work. As a student, Imani served the UCAE as a student ambassador and program assistant before joining the Center for Wellness Promotion as a graduate assistant. She is excited to return to the UCAE in this role and to work with students as they achieve academic success. In her free time, Imani enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, trying new recipes, and spending time with her friends and family.
