Position info:

  • SOS Peer Mentors work with students who have experienced academic difficulty. It is a semester-long program and is tailored to help students identify their unique challenges, improve academic performance, and return to good academic standing.
  • SOS Peer Mentors empower the students they work with to identify strengths and challenges, develop academic and personal success strategies, and connect with appropriate campus resources.
  • Mentors work on average 10-12 hours per week and earn $12.50 per hour.
  • Students can apply through Hire-a-Niner or by clicking above. This position is eligible for Federal Work Study.
  • Peer Mentors are required to attend weekly staff meetings/trainings on one (1) of the following days/times throughout the semester:
    • Tuesday, 8:30am – 9:30am
    • Wednesday, 12:15pm – 1:15pm
  • Peer Mentors should expect to support five mentees.
  • Peer Mentors can earn International Peer Educator Training Program Certification (IPETPC, Level 1 & 2) through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).

Qualifications:

  • Must be an undergraduate student who has been at Charlotte for at least one semester (having earned at least 12 credit hours at UNC Charlotte)
  • Maintain a minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Will be enrolled in 6+ credit hours in the semester of employment
  • Must be in good conduct standing with the University
