Abstract:
In August 2022, our learning center merged efforts in peer tutoring and peer-assisted learning (PAL) programs, focusing on hiring, outreach, and training, thus reshaping our approach to student support. This integration optimized recruitment efficiency and fostered a deeper understanding of job expectations for peer leaders in both services.
Collaborative efforts extended beyond student-facing roles, cultivating a sense of community among professional staff, graduate assistants, and undergraduates. This unity translated into combined campus outreach and events to promote services more effectively.
Strategic, merged staff meetings, and collaborative planning facilitated this integration. Critical reflections of each program’s specific needs guided the process. Challenges included balancing conflicting ideas, and maintaining coherent record-keeping.
Looking ahead, our focus is on refining and expanding the collaborative model. Objectives include program growth, diverse student outreach, and joint event planning. This presentation offers insights into successful integration, emphasizing benefits, challenges, and a forward-looking perspective on enhancing collaborative efforts.
