Peer Tutoring

Tutorial services is course-specific academic support available through appointment and drop-in tutoring.

Tutoring is free and available to any enrolled undergraduate student.

How to Schedule
  1. Log in to Connect through My.Charlotte.edu.
  2. Click Appointments on the left hand menu.
  3. Click the ‘Make an Appointment or Drop-in’ Button in the Upper Right
    Corner
  4. Under ’What type of Appointment..’ Select ‘Academic Support
    (tutoring/mentoring)’
  5. Under ‘Service’ Select ‘Course Based tutoring’
  6. Pick Your Desired Date (The calendar will allow you to see
    appointments up to 2 weeks out)
  7. Click ‘Find Available Time’
    1. Once selected, under the calendar you have the options to filter
      your needs by the Staff Member, In-person or virtual, and Location.
  8. To the right of the calendar, location options will be shown with photos
    of the tutors (i.e. Colvard North 2200, Klein Hall 110, Virtual).
  9. Under the pictures of the tutors, an option to select the Course you
    would like tutoring will be available.
  10. Once you select the course, you can select the appointment time that
    works best for you.
  11. Please add topic-specific comments about what you want your peer
    tutor to help you learn.
  12. Confirm email and text confirmation reminders are selected and verify
    your listed mobile phone number.
  13. Click Schedule.

PAL (Peer-Assisted learning)

PAL Sessions are academic group study support led by Peer Leaders, current students who have completed the course successfully.

These sessions include collaborative and fun activities that provide practice and study skills for notoriously difficult courses.

How do I attend?

Step 1: Check PAL’s website to see if your course is offering PAL Sessions this semester.

Step 2: If your course is offered, then look at the schedule and attend a session! If your course is not offered, please refer to Peer Tutoring or tutor.com.

How do I schedule an Academic Consultation?
  1. Log in to Connect.Charlotte.edu using your NinerNET
    credentials
  2. Click ‘’Appointments’ on the left-hand menu
  3. Click the ‘Make an Appointment or Drop-in’ Button in the
    Upper Right Corner
  4. Under ’What type of Appointment..’ Select ‘Academic Support
    (tutoring/mentoring)’
  5. Under ‘Service’ select ‘Academic Consultation (Not Advising)’
  6. Pick a date and select ‘Find Available Time’
  7. View the availabilities to the right of the calendar
  8. Select how would you like to meet? (In person or virtual) The
    location will change based on your selection
  9. To the left under the calendar you can filter your needs by
    controlling for the Staff Member, In-person or virtual, and
    Location.
  10. After selecting your time please add topic-specific comments
    about what you would like to talk about (e.g. time
    management, goal setting, study strategies, etc.)
  11. Confirm email and text confirmation reminders are selected
    and verify your listed mobile phone number.
  12. Click Schedule.

Accountability groups

Accountability Groups offer structured individual work time by facilitating a small group environment that encourages community, where peer leaders model effective and transferable academic strategies.

Accountability Groups meet weekly for 75 minutes throughout the semester and are facilitated by student leaders.

Peer-coaching

In peer-coaching, you will be paired with a Success Guide to have consistent academic support throughout the semester.

What can a Success Guide help me with?

Time Management:

  • Planning out school work
  • Helping with work/life balance

Exam Preparation:

  • Serve as accountability partners
  • Assist in finding specific academic help

Note-Taking:

  • Help build study and note-taking skills
  • Find ways to make the best use of your notes

SHIELD

SHIELD stands for Students Honoring Individual Experiences and Learning Differences.

It is a two-year, structured program designed to provide graduated support for neurodiverse students with ADHD, ADHD-like experiences, and/or executive functioning skills challenges.

SHIELD runs alongside students’ regular course of study and students from all majors can apply.

How do I join a SHIELD cohort?

SHIELD is different from the UCAE’s other programs because it is a two-year program.

49er Rebound

49er Rebound is a program to assist students who are experiencing academic difficulty at UNC Charlotte.

Freshmen and transfers from all colleges participate in 49er Rebound.

Students who are placed on academic probation at the conclusion of their first or second semester at UNC Charlotte are required to participate in 49er Rebound.
